SharmanShaw out on site: Leading car manufacturer exhibition stand build

While many companies may have been winding down for Christmas, we were doing the opposite. We were busy delivering one of our final exhibition stand projects for 2019 for a major car manufacturer.

Spanning 1,000 square metres, the exhibition stand took centre stage at one of the busiest shopping centres in the country, Westfield London.

There were a few different agencies involved in this project. The car manufacturer client employed an agency called Brandscape Group Ltd. They engaged Leo Associates on the design and project management, who asked us to manage the construction and installation of the stand.

The location and dimensions of the stand and sheer weight of the exhibits meant the project wasn’t without its challenges. But, with careful planning and thorough designs, we were able to anticipate what was required for a smooth construction and install.

A tight timeframe and site restrictions meant it was all hands on deck, with 18 members of our team (six on-site and 12 in the factory) working some full-on night shifts to turn the exhibition stand into reality within a relatively short space of time.

To give you an insight into the scale of the work that was involved, this is what the stand looked like in the initial early hours as it was starting to take shape:

This exhibition stand design and build kept us on our toes and tested our skills, but it was all worth it, as the end result did exactly what it set out to do – make a huge impact and turn heads.

To look at the end result, you would have thought the stand had always been there. The way it’s fully utilised the exhibition space and created a focal point that’s highly appealing to shoppers from every angle.

The stand is exhibition design at its very best, but we couldn’t possibly leave it on that note. Not without sharing some of the backstage inner workings with you…

The behind-the-scenes bit

As we mentioned earlier, there were several challenges we had to overcome to make this stand happen, which is common for most, if not all, exhibition stand design and installations.

With this particular project, we had to pay extra consideration to how we were going to access the stand location and incorporate the exhibition stand exhibits. And this is how we overcame these issues:

Challenge 1: Stand site access – we had to work within a restricted timeframe

Solution: We were highly organised and made sure we had everything we needed to work on the stand once the shopping centre had closed. This involved pre-booking all of our materials to make sure we had permission to move them into the centre after 10pm.

Challenge 2: Stand exhibits – we had to make sure the stand could support the weight of the cars

Solution: It wasn’t the first time we’d worked with weighty exhibits, so we knew exactly what to do to make the exhibition stand suitable. This involved building a reinforced platform – we deliberately kept it at a minimal height so that cables could be run underneath, which was a key health and safety requirement.

This particular exhibition stand is a real show-stopper, which we delivered to the highest standard and on schedule. Plus, it did what it was designed to do, get the client’s name out there to thousands of shoppers.
