5 of our favourite on-stand branding hacks – revealed

Your brand is your business badge. It’s how your customers, prospects, in fact, the entire outside world perceives you.

First impressions matter and your branding plays an instrumental part in influencing what people make of your company.

But what do we mean by branding? Well, first of all, let’s define the term ‘brand’, with a little help from the Design Council, who say that ’a brand results from a set of associations and perceptions in people’s minds…’

While ‘branding’, on the other hand, ‘Is an attempt to harness, generate, influence and control these associations to help the business perform better. Any organisation can benefit enormously by creating a brand that presents the company as distinctive, trusted, exciting, reliable or whichever attributes are appropriate to that business.’

Now that we have some clarity over branding and brand, let’s apply it to our world – the world of exhibition design and stand-building. Branding can literally make or break an exhibition stand, so here are our top on-stand branding hacks to make sure you achieve the latter:

1. Be consistent

Consistency is key to unlocking brand success, otherwise how else is everybody going to easily identify you, if everything about your company looks different?

How to apply this hack to your stand: Hopefully, you’ll have selected just one font and font size for your brand. Make sure that you use this for all of your stand signage, in fact, wherever you need words. This also applies to your marketing literature, if you’re planning on producing something specifically for your stand, such as flyers or brochures.

2. Use your colours

Colours are a great way of grabbing people’s attention and, as we all know, the brighter they are, the more head-turning they tend to be. However, that doesn’t mean your exhibition stand should look like it’s collided with a rainbow.

How to apply this hack to your stand: Remember your brand colour palette and stick to it. You don’t necessarily have to use all of your shades either, sometimes, less is more. For instance, you may choose to brighten up all of your stand walls with a particular hue or just apply colour to your stand accessories, such as your seating and plant pots (which can really make them pop).

Applying your brand colours across graphic elements, such as text, icons and backgrounds, is also an incredibly effective technique.

3. Love your logo

If there’s one element of your branding that needs to appear on your exhibition stand, it’s your logo. We know, it’s the one thing that most people associate with branding, but not everybody remembers to factor it into their exhibition stand design (and they really should!)

Think about, Puma, Nike, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, and just how identifiable their logos are. Now imagine their branding without their logos, it would be like seeing rain without clouds, macaroni without cheese, Batman without Robin. In other words, very odd…

How to apply this hack to your stand: Always make room for your logo and if you’re not sure how best to incorporate it, ask your stand-builder, who should be able to advise you on the most effective way to use it.

4. Be current

This may sound basic, but it’s really crucial – make sure your on-stand branding is up to date. You may have gone through a rebrand last year or tweaked your messaging, font or logo here and there in recent weeks.

While these changes may only be small, they’re still changes that matter. Going back to hack number 1, consistency is key.

How to apply this hack to your stand: Take the time to check that you’re using the very latest version of your branding and that everything about it is current.

5. Make time to plan

The most effective exhibition stands are undoubtedly those that have been carefully planned, not pulled together at the last minute.

By now, you’ll hopefully have realised that branding is one of the key components of excellent exhibition stand design and how you apply, it can have a dramatic impact on the end result.

How to apply this hack to your stand: Ask your stand-builder about how your brand is going to be incorporated into your stand. You may already have some ideas or are open to suggestions, either way, it should be at the core of your design and the rest should flow from there….
